The earliest traces of shipping in Heidelberg date back to the Roman Empire, when the Neckar acted as a trading route. During the Middle Ages, the Neckar fleet carried goods and people as far as France.
Passenger shipping became part of local tourism during the 20th century. Today, Weisse Flotte combines that tradition with sightseeing and event cruises.
